The brief: fast-track transformation of an open-plan office

Alfa Laval were preparing to relocate their sales and marketing teams into a new open-plan office environment and wanted to make the very best use of the space from day one.

Key priorities included:

  • Introducing new height-adjustable desks throughout the workspace
  • Improving acoustic performance within the open-plan area
  • Delivering the project as quickly as possible
  • Creating a more welcoming, collaborative canteen environment for staff across the site

The overall aim was to create a modern, comfortable workspace that supports focus, wellbeing and collaboration, while reflecting Alfa Laval’s professional, forward-thinking brand.

 

The solution

Accolade Workspace worked closely with Alfa Laval to develop a practical, cost-effective solution that could be delivered on a fast programme and with minimal disruption.

 

  • Space planning and furniture consultancy

Alongside product supply and installation, Accolade Workspace supported Alfa Laval with the planning and layout of the new environment, helping ensure the space worked effectively for a range of daily activities. Recommendations were made around furniture selection and zoning, particularly within the canteen, to maximise flexibility and usability.

The result is a space that comfortably supports collaboration, dining, informal meetings, social interaction and quiet time, allowing staff to choose how and where they work or recharge throughout the day.

  • Acoustic ceiling feature

To address acoustic challenges in the open-plan office, we specified and installed Allsfar Flott acoustic ceiling tiles. These sculptural baffle-style tiles introduce depth, texture and colour to the ceiling while significantly improving sound absorption.

The alternating colour layout creates visual interest and subtly defines zones within the space, helping the office feel calmer and more structured without compromising openness.

  • Height-adjustable desking

All new height-adjustable desks were supplied and installed across the floor, giving staff the flexibility to move between sitting and standing throughout the day. This supports wellbeing, ergonomics and long-term comfort, while also allowing the space to adapt easily to future change.

  • Phone booths for focused work

Two new Haikin “Beach Hut” phone booths were installed to provide enclosed spaces for private calls, video meetings and focused tasks. These booths give staff easy access to quiet space within the open-plan environment, helping balance collaboration with concentration.

  • Seamless delivery

All elements of the project, from furniture and acoustic products through to installation, were delivered and installed by Accolade Workspace’s in-house team, ensuring quality control, clear communication and a smooth programme from start to finish.

 

The result

The completed workspace is bright, modern and highly functional. Acoustic performance has been significantly improved, staff benefit from flexible, ergonomic workstations, and the addition of phone booths supports a wider range of working styles.
