The Brief: Modernising customer-facing spaces whilst laying the foundations for future improvements

Sika UK is a leading supplier of construction chemicals and industrial materials, providing innovative solutions for concrete, roofing, flooring, sealing and waterproofing across the construction and manufacturing sectors.

Their Redditch facility plays an important role in hosting customer meetings, product demonstrations and training sessions. However, the existing office environment had become dated and no longer reflected the professionalism or quality of the Sika brand.

The first-floor layout consisted of one oversized training room, a single meeting room, two offices, a small kitchen and two washrooms. The space was inefficient, lacked flexibility and failed to create the welcoming experience Sika wanted for both customers and employees.

Accolade Workspace was appointed to refurbish customer-facing areas within Unit 16 at Sika’s Redditch facility, creating a modern, flexible environment that improved the visitor experience whilst complementing the design language already established across other Sika locations.

 

ClearPath Methodology in Action

Working closely with Sika, we followed our proven ClearPath Methodology to understand how each space was being used and how it could better support customer training, collaboration and day-to-day operations.

During the early stages of the refurbishment, previously unidentified site conditions required the programme to be temporarily paused while additional investigations and specialist works were completed. Accolade worked closely with Sika to coordinate the necessary activities, minimise disruption and implement a revised programme, allowing the project to progress safely and efficiently.

As works progressed, opportunities were identified to enhance elements of the building’s infrastructure alongside the refurbishment. Working collaboratively with Sika, these improvements were incorporated into the project, adding long-term value and ensuring the completed workspace was well positioned for future use.

The Solution

The completed refurbishment transformed an outdated office into a modern customer-facing workplace that makes far better use of the available floor area.

Key improvements included:

• Refurbished reception area with exposed pipework and services concealed to create a clean, professional first impression.
• A large, flexible training room designed to support multiple room layouts.
• Two contemporary meeting rooms.
• A centrally located tea point serving the training and meeting spaces.
• Three refurbished washrooms.
• Two modern offices.
• Bespoke concealed storage finished with acoustic wall panelling, allowing flip-top tables, stackable chairs and trolleys to be stored neatly whilst maintaining the room’s clean aesthetic.
• Integrated charging shelf within the training room, providing convenient power for users whilst retaining the flexibility of the movable furniture.
• Finishes were carefully selected to complement Sika’s wider workplace standards, ensuring the refurbished spaces felt familiar whilst retaining their own identity.

The Result

Sika’s Redditch facility has been transformed into a contemporary workplace that better supports customer training, collaboration and day-to-day operations.

The redesigned layout has increased meeting capacity, introduced additional welfare facilities and created a far more professional experience for visitors, whilst making significantly better use of the available floor area.

Although the project encountered unforeseen site conditions requiring the programme to be revised, careful planning, clear communication and proactive project management enabled Accolade to successfully deliver the refurbishment in line with the updated schedule.

The success of the Unit 16 refurbishment has provided Sika with a flexible, future-ready environment that better supports visitors, training and collaboration. Following completion, Accolade has also been invited to develop proposals for further improvements elsewhere on the Redditch site, reflecting the confidence built throughout the project.
