Midlands Air Ambulance Charity

Biography:

The largest Air Ambulance organisation in the UK, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is responsible for funding and operating three air ambulance helicopters and a fleet of critical care cars serving the communities of six Midlands counties: Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, the West Midlands and Worcestershire.

Challenge:

The client was looking for a strategic location to operate from as well as a space with training facilities capable of training the clinicians to the latest standards. Accolade worked with Morris Property to manufacture, supply and install the internal glazed partition screens in line with the architect’s specification.

Process:

Accolade completed two site surveys to ensure that the plasterboard reveals were ready to receive the trackwork for the glazed screens. Our pre-start site visits are essential – in this case, during the first visit Accolade identified that the reveals weren’t ready to receive the glazed partition screens. Preventing a false start and potential day work charges – we were able to put back our start date to give the contractor time to make the necessary preparations.

Accolade’s employed carpentry installers completed the trackwork over two days. On completion, they measured up for the glazing and returned to install the glazing just before the completion of the project in order to keep the glazing pristine.

Throughout the project, we liaised with the main contractor over technical queries such as ensuring that the screens would withstand the vibration from the helicopters and timeline queries to ensure that we delivered the glazed screens in line with the overall project timeline.

Completed Space:

The Komfort Polar Glazed Screens teamed with Komfort Sonik doors facilitated a pleasant space, well- lit with natural light, for the client.

Benefits:

Hanna Sebright, chief executive for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said:

“Our new airbase and headquarters is a significant milestone in our charity’s 32-year history and is critical to us achieving our mission to provide patients of the Midlands with outstanding pre-hospital care and lifesaving intervention today and into the future.”

“We are delighted that our clinicians and non-clinical staff are now able to work out of the same building, as one team, in this wonderful new facility and look forward to welcoming members of the public to visit us in the near future.”

Nathan Jones, site manager for Morris Property, which oversaw the build added:

“Accolade was a big help on the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity project, I couldn’t fault the team’s performance. Delivery was quick and productivity from the lads on site was good. I would definitely recommend Accolade and would use them again. Sam came to site prior to starting the job, measured up to check the architect’s drawings and discussed the package with us on site. Prior to arrival on site, one of the operatives came to site to check all was ready before they started. It made us feel secure about choosing Accolade.”
